I was reading a passage from the book of Matthew that I found to be truly astonishing. The passage is from the thirty-fourth to the thirty-ninth verse of the tenth chapter.
34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. 39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. (kjv)
This passage stood out to me because of what it is saying about what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is not enough to say you love Jesus but remain focused solely on worldly affairs. It is not enough to say that Jesus is your lord and then continue to exalt your family, friends, and loved ones ahead of Christ.

The idea of spring break typically musters up the image of beaches, laziness, parties, alcohol, and promiscuity. My first spring break experience, though, was the polar opposite from the norm. I, along with a group affiliated with Wright State’s branch of Campus Crusade for Christ, were able to spend our minor vacation in urban Chicago for a missions outreach.
The trip as a whole is called Urban Immersion where students Campus Crusade students from various universities around the nation come together in major cities for service, learning, and evangelism. Our group was composed of students from Arkansas, Wisconsin, Washington, and, of course,
Ohio.

Norma Lee Neff passed away Saturday March the 26th at 1:15 in the morning. Norma lee was my fiancee’s grandmother who I had know for five years now. She had been sick for the past few months and was diagnosed with andvanced terminal lymphoma just over one month ago. She passed quietly with her entire immediate family around her bedside.
Norma lee was well loved by many and will be dearly missed. The viewing will be this Tuesday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles, Ohio and the funreal will follow on Wednesday at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Weston, Ohio. We all mourn her death but celebrate her eternal life.

It was once said that the only two things that are for sure in life is death and taxes. Most everyone has had experience with at least one of those two and, in due time, will encounter the other also. It appears, though, the America’s Chief of the Federal Reserve, Alan Greenspan, wants to strengthen the relationship between these two eventualities.
At a recent meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee, Greenspan announced his proposed overhaul of the tax system to legislators to reduce income and property taxes and instead increase consumption taxes. The latter of the two types of taxation is known as a regressive tax because it has an unbalanced effect of the poorer populations. Imagine the difference between the amount of income spent on food and other essentials for an upper-class citizen as compared to a person struggling in poverty. It is clear that the poorer individual is left spending a much higher percentage of income than the richer man, or woman.
